Situated in the middle of the beautiful Cartmel Valley, Broughton House is the perfect place to relax and unwind, away from the bustle of the central Lake District. Built around 1810, and set in two acres of south facing gardens within the Lake District National Park, Broughton House is a peaceful haven away from it all, yet is only a 20 minute drive from Junction 36 of the M6 motorway.
Two miles to the south is the village of Cartmel, with its 12th century Priory, and famous race course. Here you will find restaurants and pubs, including Michelin starred L'enclume and its sister restaurant, Rogan & Company, the Sticky Toffee Pudding shop, Cartmel Cheeses, and many others. Three miles to the north is Newby Bridge, at the southern tip of Windermere. Ambleside, Coniston and Langdale are less than an hour's drive away.
Covid 19 Update 23rd June - well, Boris has finally spoken, and I am delighted to report that I will be officially reopening Ben's Yurt and the Cabin, plus the two Garden Houses, from the 4th July, to self-catering guests
For the reasons stated below, Broughton House will not be taking any new bed and breakfast bookings, but everyone who has an existing booking can rest assured of a warm welcome from me (and Puffin, who will be waiting with her ball!)
Looking forward to seeing you soon - stay safe - Cate
Covid 19 Update 19th June: As the 4th July approaches, it sounds highly likely that the self-catering part of Broughton House will be reopening. However, I am aware that the government might also tell us that bed and breakfast businesses will be given the green light to welcome guests once more.
Whilst this is good news, it presents me with the very real dilemma of how to keep my guests, and me, safe, during the current pandemic, so I have reluctantly decided that I will not be taking any new B and B bookings for July, August and September. The bookings that I currently have are well spaced out, so I will have time to furlough the bedding, and clean the rooms extra thoroughly, between guests. I am not prepared to take the risk that having new guests every night poses, as I'm sure you will appreciate.
I have everything in place to keep the Garden Houses and the Yurt as safe as possible, so it is business as usual for these, and I am happy to take reservations. I have extra sets of duvets and pillows, which will be quarantined between guest change-overs; and industrial quantities of disinfectant, bleach, anti-bacterial sprays, and hand sanitiser are ready to be deployed. Social distancing won't be a problem, as there is plenty of room in the garden, and it sounds as if the Lake District will be easing back to (the new) normal by the beginning of July.
Stay safe, and I hope to see some of you soon - many thanks for your understanding - Cate
